Tribute to Rock River Trail Founder Frank Schier

Remembering Frank Schier

The Rock River Trail Initiative would like to share a wonderful tribute that Frank Schier’s newspaper The Rock River Times published on January 25, 2017. Frank, the founder of the Rock River Trail Initiative, lost his batter with cancer on January 17, 2017. While we are all still coming to grips with life without Frank, we offer these articles to you as a remembrance of all that Frank did for the Rock River communities.

Over the last six years Frank worked to distribute 60,000 oak saplings to communities along the Rock River, and the last three years he worked to distribute information about planting milkweeds so that the Rock River could become a Monarch butterfly corridor. Frank’s living legacy is the Rock River Trail, and all the work he did along the 320 miles of the trail. Please think of him when you see an oak tree growing along the Rock River, or watch a butterfly fluttering among the milkweeds.
