Hennepin Canal Environmental Park Improvements – Rock Island County, Illinois by River Action

Hennepin Canal Environmental Park Improvements:

The Hennepin Canal Environmental Park is located at the Steel Dam along the Rock River and Lock 30 on the Hennepin Canal in Milan, IL.  In 2015 River Action will undertake several park improvements that will make it more accessible and inviting for park, canal and river users.  Restoration and design plans include path improvements, clearing of the Steel Dam portage, removal of invasive and encroaching vegetation from the historic Lock 30 infrastructure, and installation of new interpretive signage and park amenities.  In addition, 1.5 acres of mesic prairie will be restored in the wildlife area along the canal.
